Abstract


Formerly the Indonesian nation is known as a nation that is friendly, polite, and respect the good people of tribe or religion, now inversely proportional. The emergence of conflict, corruption and violence in the name of religion, tribe, or different interests. To overcome the problem of cultural decline and character of the nation, many parties believe that education still plays an important role. Character education purposes to develop a persons character to be moral and morality through the values that have been born in the culture of the nation. This cultural value becomes one that needs to be developed in character education, because there is no human living community that is not based on cultural values recognized by the community. Cultural values are also used as the basis for the meaning of communication relations between community members. The role of culture is so important in peoples lives that it must be a source of value in improving the character of the nation. It is fitting for education in Indonesia to develop the values of culture and character in the learners themselves so that it becomes the basis for them in thinking, acting, acting in developing himself as a citizen of Indonesia who have uniqueness compared with other nations.
